THE ROAD TO TÃZ
A Participatory Documentary Experience
Imagine waking up to find yourself immersed in a performance that is all about you. Your very own Odyssey.
You are the protagonist, and the story is your life. "The Road to TÃZ" is an interactive documentary about one such performance, created by the collective Odyssey Works for a Participant named Jude Regula.
Jude's Odyssey was created after months of extensive interviews with Jude and their loved ones. It was to be borne out of respect and love for the Participant's life, loves, hopes and fears. However, the Odyssey was delayed, as so many things were, by the Coronavirus Pandemic.
Two years later, after changing their name and pronouns, and reexamining their way of life, Jude opened themselves up to be interviewed again. Starting afresh, Odyssey Works were enraptured by Jude's newly discovered sense of longing:
Namely, a longing to find new ways of making community, and a love for the mysterious lives people live in alternative, underground spaces.
In honor of Jude's openness to share this side of themselves, Odyssey Work's designed the Odyssey as a quest to find a fabled community called:
TÃZ (pronounced: tadj).
According to legend, TÃZ is a fabled Temporary Autonomous Zone: An ephemeral community created by those in search of new ways of living, working, loving, and experiencing their lives. We are all, in some way, searching for TAZ because if we are searching for something, that’s what TAZ is.
Over the course of 3 days, Jude left their home in New York City and plunged deep into the heart of rural Portugal in search of this mythical site. Along the way, Jude encountered and formed bonds with fellow searchers for TÃZ. Like Jude, each had their own reason for embarking on this quest, and they listened to and honoured each other's journeys.
Some were longing for art they wished to create, the life they wished to live, or the parent or lover they wished to be. Unbeknownst to everyone, Jude and the searchers were bringing TÃZ into existence simply by this vert act of communing whilst in search.
This interactive documentary is an online role-playing game for 2-4 players set in the landscapes Jude traversed. But the role you will be playing is that of yourself, searching for TÃZ, much the way Jude did. Like Jude, you will not be an audience, but Participants in a quest:
A quest to discover this hidden community of TÃZ for yourselves.
So, without further ado:
